With the studios and gallery empty at the moment we decided to create an exhibition of substance - even if it may only be viewed digitally. So we looked to the ‘permanent collection’ of PADA. This collection is a dynamic archive, reflecting on the endeavour of the studios. The idea of a collection itself has a long presence in art history and often is what constitutes its owners as collectors, we do not feel like collectors, but more as safekeepers. For a variety of reasons artists leave work with us, which then contributes to the collection. A lack of permanent structure across the studio and artist-run profile of the project, creates natural space for the collection to be flexible. Artworks come and go, some permanent gifts others just short term storage. The works are tangible results of the artists’ residency, often experiments, displaying fresh inspiration or the beginnings of a new direction. They stay within the studio as traces, as memories of different residencies, discussions had and long days spent working.

It is amazing to be surrounded by this history especially at the moment, when we miss the presence of residents on a daily basis.
