Environmental Sustainability Strategy

PADA recognises the role it has to play in preserving the environment and is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of its activities.

We aim to improve our practices whilst advocating for artists to consider the environmental impact of their practice. Across the residency and gallery programmes we hope to minimise our impact and create a sustainable environment for the production and presentation of artwork.

We have therefore worked with Alice Bonnot of Villa Villa, external sustainability consultant, to develop this eco-vision, assess our existing efforts and actions, and identify our next steps towards a sustainable operation of the gallery and art residency.

This Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan covers the following areas:

  • We have amended policies on energy usage, water consumption, cleaning and waste management.

  • We commit to using green energy as well as consciously favouring ethical institutions and banks. We will reinvest within this sustainability strategy and look to offset carbon emissions.

  • We commit to choose and encourage the most ecological modes of transport and shipping to reduce carbon emissions.

  • We have created a new agreement for participating artists to encourage the adoption of environmentally conscious actions. We encourage the responsible use of materials and favour projects that share our ethos.

  • Raise public awareness of environmental issues and how PADA contributes to the fight against climate change.

The strategy will include immediate actions that will begin to reduce carbon emissions straight away and next steps which will need further research and development.

We are committed to reviewing these measures annually and adapting them to evolving environmental industry standards, as well as monitoring and reinvesting savings in our own sustainability efforts.

For a more detailed breakdown of our actions please read our Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan (pdf).
